Junior Hockey Team to Play at Upper Canada College

Upper Canada College Arena

Reported on the Hockey News Blog that an Ontario Provincial Junior Hockey League team will begin playing out of the new arena at Upper Canada College, although a commenter who apparently is affiliated with the “Upper Canada Junior A Hockey Club” reports that the team will not be formally affiliated with the school, allowing it to sign players regardless of the school they attend:

Although the team will be playing out of the Upper Canada College arena and shares similar values with the school (excellence in academics and athletics) there is no formal affiliation with the school. The relationship with UCC would be comparable to the relationship that exists between the Buzzers and St. Michaels College , Villanova Knights and Villanova College , Hill Academy and the Aurora Tigers etc… As an independent organization, we are free to sign players regardless of where they attend school. This being said, we will continue to pursue a formal relationship with UCC to provide a wider continuum of hockey opportunities for its student athletes. We are confident that the UCC student body, and hockey enthusiasts in the various communities of central Toronto, will be interested in following their progress.

Vancouver Island Private School Residents Row for Canada

Shawnigan Lake School Resident Kyle Hamilton Wins Olympic Gold

Shawnigan Lake School is proud to congratulate two members of its extended family on their Olympic rowing success. Jon Beare, Shawnigan coach and husband of a Shawnigan teacher and boarding house assistant director won a Bronze medal as part of Canada’s lightweight men’s four. Kyle Hamilton, also married to a Shawnigan boarding house assistant director, won Gold in Canada’s heavyweight mens’ eight.

Jon Beare wins Olympic Bronze

Shawnigan is proud to support Canadian rowing. Our national teams trained frequently at Shawnigan in their Olympic preparation where part of our boathouse is reserved for their use. Seeing Olympians live and train amongst our community is a real bonus for our students, and our rowers in particular. Motivated in part by the example of our National Team athletes Shawnigan’s eight were Henley Royal Champions this summer.
